The short version

- Passed the PAT by sixteen strokes, medalist by fifteen, after failing it first
- Playing since age five; his grandfather started him in lessons
I came to golf as a career late and sideways. I grew up playing, served in the Army, then spent a long time in Las Vegas nightlife and casino hosting, which teaches you a lot about people and nothing about a 7-iron. When I decided golf was the career, I did it the long way: two golf schools, then the PGA Golf Management program at UNLV.
Somewhere in there I wrote You Suck at Golf, because the people I played with weren't losing strokes with their swings. They were losing them with their decisions. Then I failed my first Playing Ability Test, as a scratch golfer, for exactly the reasons in my own book, and passed the next one by sixteen. That became Pass the PAT: First Try.
I teach every part of the game, and I'm good at the swing stuff. But the thing I'm best at is looking at your last ten scorecards and telling you where the strokes went, because it's almost never where you think. Then we fix that first.
